The Essential Piano Teacher

Beethoven had Czerny, Mozart had Leopold, and Chopin had Wojciech Zywny. If you didn’t know, these are the men behind the virtuosos. Czerny, Leopold and Zywny were the pedagogues, the piano teachers, who enriched the lives of the men who would later become one of the founding fathers of classical music.

The piano involves both music theory and application. This is why it is so important for composers and conductors alike to study this grand and inspiring instrument. In fact, it's required that every student aspiring for a music degree should learn how to play the piano. With that said, the piano teacher is essential. This is because instructors teach beginning musicians proper ear training, rhythm, notation, technique, sight-reading, improvisation and more. All of which are critical to composing musical pieces and executing them perfectly. On top of that, they also help the student intrinsically. Teachers help inspire and instill passion to their students; where, if done successfully, the student takes everything he learned and recreates—or even invents—his own music.

Centuries ago hiring a skilled piano teacher was a privilege for the rich. Today, however, piano teachers are more accessible. There are one-to-one, semi-private, or group classes available not only to aspiring musicians, but also to those who want to take the instrument up as a hobby. So if you are passionate and want to learn the technique and theory behind music, then—just like Beethoven, Mozart, and Chopin—getting a skilled piano instructor is the best way to have that experience.
